FLES (Foreign Language in the Elementary Schools) Art Unit in Spanish
Overview (Big Idea):
Art and Spanish are two subjects in school that can be integrated together in many ways and also can bring lots of culture from Spain and the Latin American cultures. I feel that art is a great way for students of any age to express themselves and is also very interactive. That is why I choose to use art as the major theme for my unit plan. Each day has a main topic for the students to learn related to art which also builds upon what they had learned the previous days. My unit tries to make learning Spanish enjoyable for the students and to expose them to another culture that has a great impact on our own country.
Enduring Understanding:
Art can be used as a way for students to express themselves in another language and to learn about different cultures.
Essential Questions:
~What are different types of artwork from Spanish-speaking countries?
~How can artwork be described in Spanish?
~How is artwork a part of someone's culture?
~How does the Spanish-speaking culture compare to my own culture?
Target Age Group:
Beginning Spanish Speakers in 1st Grade-6th Grade
ACTFL Standards:
