Colors: Ana la chica del arte and Diego Rivera
ACTFL Standards:

4.1 Comparisons: Students demonstrate understanding of the nature of language through comparisons of the language studied and their own.
Objectives:
1. TSWBAT create a picture using different colors.
2. TSWBAT to say the names of colors in Spanish.
3. TSWBAT to describe a picture using colors in Spanish.
Context and Rationale:
The topic color is very relevant to students at this age because they tend to use lots of colors and talk about colors often. This lesson will be done after learning the alphabet and the Chicka Chicka Boom Boom book will be looked at since there are lots of colors and the alphabet will be reviews. Colors in a foreign language is a concept that is very easy for students of any age to grasp.

Pre-Activity: Learning Colors with Chicka Chicka Boom Boom (Standards: 1.2,4.1 Objectives: 2,3)
The teacher will go through all of the colors with the students. The teacher will open to a page in the book and ask students about the colors seen on this page such as what color is the letter I? What letter is blue? To review letters from the previous day.
During Activities: Ana: la chica del arte (Standards: 1.2,4.1 Objectives: 2,3)
Once they have mastered the names of the colors, the teacher will read Ana: la chica del arte from Stroybird. After reading some of the pages, the teacher will ask students which colors they see on the pages.
Diego Rivera Art (Standards: 3.1,4.1 Objective: 3)
After the story the students will get to see art work for Diego Rivera who was a muralist from Mexico that used many colors in his artwork. They will describe his artwork learning colors that they have just learned in Spanish.
Mural Art (Standard: 3.1 Objectives: 1,3)
Students then will have the opportunity in creating their own minutiae murals that they would like to have on their bedroom wall like Diego Rivera’s using a variety of different colors. After they are done they will share their art using colors learned from the lesson.
Post-Activity: I Can Do Statements (Standard: 2.1 Objectives: 2,3)
At the end of the lesson for the today, students will receive a piece of paper with I can do statements that say:
~I can say at least 5 colors in Spanish.
~I can describe artwork using colors in Spanish.
All of these will have columns for no help, some help, and help. The teacher will collect these to get student feedback on what they need to work on for the next lesson.
Assessment:
Students will be assessed throughout mainly on participation and effort in remembering the names of the different colors. Students will also be observed while they are creating their art project to see if they understand the directions that were given to them.
Differentiation:
This lesson applies to multiple learners. There will be many visuals available for students while they are learning the colors. The teacher will also be reading the story and having the children repeat the names of colors for the students who like to learn orally. The art project will also help the students to be able to use movement to further develop these concepts.
