Architecture: Antoni Guadi and Dream Home Design
ACTFL Standards:
1.2 Communication: Students understand and interpret written and spoken language on a variety of topics.
3.1 Connections: Students reinforce and further their knowledge of other disciplines through the foreign language. (visual arts)
Objectives:
1. TSWBAT create a two-dimensional artwork model after Antoni Gaudi.
2. TSWBAT say parts of building in Spanish.
3. TSWBAT describe architecture using previous learned Spanish vocabulary.
Context and Rationale:
This lesson will be done after learning about the body so then they can move on the learning about buildings that people and animals spend a lot of time in. Since Gaudi uses many different materials in his architecture such as animals, humans, and nature, the children will be able to describe the artwork using previous learned vocabulary from the lesson. It is important for students to know about architecture since they see so much of it in their daily lives and it is very important to the Spanish culture.

~Architecture: House, Door, Window, Roof, Floor, Wall, Ceiling, Chimney
Materials:
~Park Poster from previous lesson with animals, nature, and now a house

~I Can Do Statements
Pre-Activity: Learning Parts of a House (Standard: 1.2 Objectives: 2,3)
The poster that was used from the previous lessons will now have a house in the middle of it so that the children can learn the different parts of a building and architecture. They will also be asked other questions about the poster to review previous learned concepts.
During Activities: Antoni Gaudi Architecture (Standards: 1.2,3.1 Objectives: 2,3)
The students will then get the chance to see different works of architecture by Antoni Gaudi and be asked to describe it using vocabulary that they know in Spanish. They will also be asked to share what their favorite one is and why, which can be done in English or Spanish.
Create Your Own Dream Home (Standards: 1.2,3.1 Objectives: 1,3)
Students will then get the chance to create their own home like Gaudi created homes during his life. They can use any form of medium to do so and are asked to have many colors, shapes, at least one animal, thing in nature, and person included in their picture. They will also give their home a name. After they are done they will pair up with a partner and describe different aspects of their home.
Post-Activity: I can do Statements (Standard: 1.2 Objectives: 2,3)
At the end of the lesson for the today, students will receive a piece of paper with I can do statements that say:
~I can say at least 5 parts of a house in Spanish.
~I can describe a house or building in Spanish using at least 5 words.
All of these will have columns for no help, some help, and help. The teacher will collect these to get student feedback on what they need to work on for the next lesson.
Assessment:
The students will be assessed on their participation to describe the architecture of Antoni Gaudi. The teacher will also observe the students in the partner activity to see how their speaking abilities have progressed over the unit and their ability to pull in other vocabulary.
Differentiation:
This lesson applies to a wide variety of learners. There will be many visuals and oral listening for the different activities. They will also have a chance to make a project and use their artistic abilities. They will also be a partner activity for students that like to work with peers.
